On Wednesday I had my op and all has gone extremely well. The consultant is pleased as is the physio, who, after walking me up and down the corridor yesterday, has now told me it is up to me to decide how much exercise I feel I can take with my bright green crutches.

So I have gone for short walks along the corridor outside my room and am pleased to be independent again--after a fashion--sorting myself out, sitting in a comfy chair, surfing the net, snoozing on the bed or watching TV. The French Open semi-final between Djokovic and Nadal at Roland Garros yesterday was gripping!

The nursing staff are lovely and very kind. Amazingly the food is recognisable and reasonably edible :-) The signs are good that I'll be discharged at the start of next week.

Thank you to everyone who has been sending me good wishes. Each and every one has been greatly appreciated.
Off for my next walkies... who knows I might even eventually make to the garden!

Your surroundings look very nice and combined with the almost edible food and pretty garden mean that you could look at your sojurn rather like a holiday... :o).

@Gaynor - it's a new. The room's a bit like a hospital version of Premier Inn so if you squint could could be forgiven for thinking you're on hols :-P!

Great news! Keep taking that exercise and I do hope you find crutches easier to manoeuvre with than I did. I was hopeless. :-) Here's to a speedy return home.

@Perpetua - Thankfully I'm not finding it difficult.
Very pleased to hear of it all going well. I thoroughly recommend swimming once you are able. My mum swears that it helped with the recovery from her identical operation hugely.
@Craig - good to hear that, I love water so it won't be a hardship.

Every hospital should be like this one...
many try, but seem to miss out somewhere...

@Tim - hope the felines aren't mis-behaving too badly. Maybe they'll appreciate us more when we're back ..[but doubt it somehow ;-)]
Do agree with you about gardens and hospitals--it makes such a difference and isn't hard to do.
Here you see through to it as you walk in the main entrance and it fills the hollow centre of the building. Niall says it is really well looked after. I've just seen it from a window on the stairs. Mind you this place is only about 4 or 5 yrs old so is pretty state of the art.
