Lazy Sunday afternoon

It is cold outside! This morning we woke up to a powdering of snow and since then we've had frequent flurries.

Happily, as we were in danger of running low on wood, we received another delivery this morning at 10 am. Obviously the cats appreciate this concern for their comfort as this photo taken 15 mins ago shows!

Spot the imposter ...
Shadow moved as I came back with the camera, but Tinka was oblivious! She adores heat and will sit very close to the woodburner, roasting first one side then the other.

I suppose we should just count ourselves lucky that we get some of the heat too....

Cats just always know where the best place is for a snooze ... !!

@Jean - oh indeed they do!!

Yes, if it isn't the bed... or the basket that sits over a loop in the underfloor... or the mat that is on the Step Warmfloor upstairs... it is someone's lap!!

Life is good when you're a cat!

Animals are generous, aren't they.
The dogs used to allow us to warm our frozen toes on their furry sides as they occupied the space in front of the stove.

When we first had our cat - he has since decamped to next door where he is hand fed prawns and fresh chicken every day - he was so keen that he jumped on to the top of our wood burner! He soon jumped off, unharmed.

@Tim - bed--middle of; chest or shoulder if wearing fleece are also acceptable :-)

Niall & Antoinette said...

@Ladyjustine - isn't it just!

Niall & Antoinette said...

@Fly - but you do have to ask politely! ;-)

@Gaynor - Good lord, I'm not telling Shadow and Tinka that! They'll go on strike. They get cold SuperU cat food out of a pouch!

Tinka did that too. Shot off again like a bullet and was also unharmed

A covering of snow here this morning, but sadly no cat in front of our woodburner. :-(

Now that looks like a warm and cosy spot to be lying in. Could do with a bit of a roast myself!

Now that's a very smart (and warm) cat!

Snow in Paris as well. We're hoping to have our open fire up and running in Blois by next weekend!

Niall & Antoinette said...

@Perpetua - most of our snow sublimated during the day--it was only a dusting; but it has been snowing this evening and now there's 2 to 3 cm.

Got to have cats :-)

Niall & Antoinette said...

@Vera - oh she and Shadow know the prime spots :-) He lies on the edge of the coffee table so as to be at the same level as the glass door of the woodburner.

Niall & Antoinette said...

@Craig - she's no fool :-)

Niall & Antoinette said...

@Aussie - if it stays the way it is now you'll need it!

Even if it doesn't nothing beats a woodburner or open fire in the winter. :-)

Looks like the snow is up your end of the valley then...
we've got snizzle coming down, but you can just make out the moon...
unless all has changed in the last 45 minutes...
I just finished posting our latest sightings and will be going back to the Laiterie in a min or two...
then I'll find out!!

RonRon in middle of bed...
fine...
RonRon and Baron...
everything is begining to get uncomfortable...
then, when Jerry decided that it was warmer upstairs the other night...
well, Pauline and I just rolled...
or were pushed...
to the sides!

A familiar sight. When Bertie comes into the house in the afternoon he heads right up next to the wood burner. We use the central heat in the morning, so each morning he naps next to a radiator.

Niall & Antoinette said...

@Tim - We've nearly fallen out of bed before now. Tinka & Shadow ensconced in the middle and then the, oh so soft but persistent, paws gently pushing you away towards the edge!

Niall & Antoinette said...

@Walt - we use the central heat as back up so when it does occasionally kick in they will lie on the radiator in the kitchen which usually has a towel hung over it.

That's cats for you. Sometimes they might even share with you but here in Melbourne we have a low of 19 degrees tonight. Think I might just pop off to bed with the aircon on.
Goodnight.

Niall & Antoinette said...

@Leon & Sue - the very thought of aircon right now ;-) Shiver!

I just love our wood burner, but I wish there was some way to eliminate what looks like volcanic dust that goes with it!! Take care Diane

How nice and civilized it all looks! We arrived back from a lovely visit to the Lake District on Sunday afternoon -- the house was colder than a tomb and has managed this morning (Tuesday) to feel warm again!

Niall & Antoinette said...

@Diane - yup, the dust is an occupational hazard.

Niall & Antoinette said...

@Broad - not in the picture: a good book a large mug of tea ... a very civilised Sunday :-)

The woodburner is our main source of heating for the house so we make sure we keep it well fed. [we have central heating but use it very much as a supplementary source]
