Today is Thankssgiving Day in the US so a lot of turkey, pumpkin pie as well as large quantities of cranberries will be consumed as families gather together from all quarters of the country to celebrate.
We took this photo of a well known lady on November 7th, the day the result of the US presidential elections. She stands proudly in the Place de la Liberté in Poitiers. She may not be as large as her better known sister but she has been gracing the Place since 1893.
We also thought you might enjoy a few more views of Poitiers taken yesterday.
Happy Thanksgiving!

...and Happy Thanksgiving to you too! Loved those photos of Poitiers. Am I right in thinking that the French gave the Statue of Liberty to the Americans? Or was it the Christmas tree from Sweden / Switzerland or somewhere which is given to London to stand in Trafalgar Square? Or am I getting all muddled up, which is a state of mind I am frequently in!
Love Poitiers - a place we discovered as a stop over on the way from the Dordogne to the Loire.
Happy Thanksgiving to you too. I've never been to Poitiers but it looks interesting. I like the fish fountain.
@Vera- you're not muddled at all :-) the Statue of Liberty was indeed a gift from the French people.
@Leon & Sue - we have absolutely fallen in love with the place :-)
@AJ - it really is worth visiting. Glad you liked the fountain--the fish's grumpy expression made us smile!
Poitiers is just super....a pity we were always fitting visits around hospital or court appointments!
I didn't remember the fish...loved the expression, though!
That dolphin fountain is wonderful!!
Happy Thanksgiving... whats's left!
@Fly - grumpy isn't he :-)
@Tim - we had a debate--fish or dolphin as it has no flippers or fins but on balance decided [like you] that it is indeed a dolphin is the style of old maps.
A belated 'happy Thanksgiving' to you both.
Did you celebrate in your little corner of France?
Gaynor - we did; turkey escalopes with mushrooms. I was going to make pumpkin pie but ran out of time during the week--it's a bit hectic on the teaching front! [you know what it's like]
I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Thanks for more glimpses of Poitiers.
@Perpetua - we did thanks :-)
Thanks for the sharing the photos of Poitiers. We have driven past and round so many times and we have never been in to see the town yet. One day..... Keep well Diane
