Off to a new home?

Driving back from doing our weekly shop we ended up trundling behind an elderly 2CV. Its aged number plate was for Cher (18) another departement in Centre - our region. The car and trailer were registered to Aube, dept 10 in the Champagne-Ardenne region so we hope it is off to a good home.

'Caught' on the phone
We managed to take a photo on the cell phone while crossing the Claise in Preuilly.

I expect it's going to a good home given the bother and cost of transporting it.
I hope so, anyway!

I had one for a while...the model with the suicide doors....and had an argument with some armed official at the Swiss border when going to a conference there.
He didn't think it could or should or was going to travel on Swiss roads.

My husband absolutely loves the 2cv. Yearns for a pink one -- bizarrely as he totally baulks at the idea of wearing anything in that colour!

@Fly - they have eternal appeal don't they? This one did look to need some TLC.

A very nice ripple... looks as though it is in "trés bon état", too!!

And "Fly in the Web".... the 2CVs in Switzerland have to conforn to a totally different and very rigorous set of standards... and still do!!

@Broad - LOL Pink!!?? Well you certainly would find it hard to miss in the parking lot! :-)

@Tim - A bit parti-coloured. The right front wheel arch was blue, but it wasn't as battered as some we've seen.

to Tim...
Yes, so he seemed to think.
The conference papers got me through, luckily, though it was clear from his demeanour that he could not imagaine how someone with a deuch in Franch Profonde order could be attending such an event.
Probably thought I was the tea lady.

I would so love a 2CV
but I suspect I couldnt get up my local hill in one!! (or get a pig in the back)

Being involved with the Citroen Classic Car Club of Australia we have several friends that have 2CVs and all are lovingly cared for.
Every few years an event is run in Australia called a "RAID". You must drive a 2CV and they take them to places where you would never expect to see them. Mostly to the very Outback.

@John - For me they're like driving a bouncy castle, as they 'boing' so.
I suppose you'd get up the hills ...... eventually ;-)
As for the pig--we'll you'd have to leave the roof open for it to fit!

Oh I so wish that little car was coming down here! I had a Citroen 2CV once, two toned grey in was, had little lace curtains in the windows, and was a real corker of a car to drive. Since then, every time I see a 2CV I get withdrawal symptoms and go into 'I want one again' mode!

@Leon & Sue - They were the cars, for those lucky enough to have one, [along with similarly 10th hand little Renault 4s] of my uni days.

Niall & Antoinette said...

@Vera - they do have an 'aaah' factor :-).

We always coverted a 2CV but ended up with white Renault 4 which we had for many, many years and loved. I hope this one has a happy new home.

Niall & Antoinette said...

@Cuby - one of my flatmates at uni had a dark blue renault 4. He and it were very popular.
We'd like to hope so too.

I would love a renovated one, have done too many renovations in our lives to take on another one!!! Diane

Niall & Antoinette said...

@Diane - Wouldn't mind a restored one either, they are cute. As neither of us has one iota of an idea how to undertake a restoration it would be the only option :-)

Sadly I have no personal experience of 2CVs. My brush wih classic cardom was owning an old VW camper, which evokes the same kind of nostalgia and partisanship. :-)

Incidentally, won't it be a shame when we can no longer instantly know the department of origin and of destination as you did here.

Niall & Antoinette said...

@Perpetua - it will indeed; we like the identifiers; though to be honest we had to look dept 10 :-)
