Day before yesterday we went to a great BBQ. Suggested by
Martine, aka Ladybird and hosted by our friends
Susan & Simon, it was a great success. Martine was on a week's vacation in the Loire valley area with Swedish friends and had the great idea to try and meet up with fellow bloggers & friends while here. Susan and Simon generously offered to host. So on Wednesday a collective of lovely people speaking French, Flemish, Swedish and English made themselves at home in their backyard.

The food was superb - proper BBQ-ed beef and chicken as well as a myriad of salads and other yummy things; all washed down by an excellent assortment of Loire wines. The conversations flowed to and fro in the different languages and a really superb time was had by all. We even came away with gifts as Martine spoiled us all by giving each of us a box of Belgian chocolates, which quite frankly, are to die for!
Photographs were taken -- we bloggers are never far from our cameras and if you'd like to see more then have a look at:
Ken's,
Gaynor's and Susan & Simon's blogs.

Conversations in full swing |
But what do you call a collective of bloggers we wondered when we came to write this post? There's:
an unkindness of ravens,
a haras of horses,
a clowder of cats [Shadow and Katinka insisted we include it]
a file of civil servants
a hastiness of cooks
or a stalk of foresters to name but a few.
Some animals even have a number of different collective nouns.
Yet, as far as we know there is no collective for a group of bloggers. So, as we are all scriveners, we humbly suggest 'a scriven of bloggers' might be appropriate.

Whatever the collective, our thanks go to Susan & Simon for being great hosts; it was a most excellent BBQ!

I quite like a scriven of bloggers and we can't think of anything better - but as in the way of things will keep on trying. It's like a cryptic clue in a crossword when one just can't give up!
@Gaynor - thanks and please do! the perfect term is yet to be found :-)
We've still got so much of that excellent food left that we haven't even opened Martine's chocolates yet! We've been the lucky beneficiaries before of her Belgian bounty, so know they are worth waiting for.
An election of eclectic elites?
Glad you all had a good time AND that the weather played fair !!
A meeting of bloggers is called a Bleet. As in we're having a bleet.
Therefore, surely, the collective should be Bleeting.
Which is also a bit approp. as we tend to follow each others blogs a bit like sheep.
However, if you take the full term of web-loggers, you could have a wordiness of web-loggers.
Scriven, I feel, should go with scribes. A Scriven of scribes has a nice ring to it; or A Scriven of scribblers even.
Or an Opus of observers as we are all commenting on the world as we see it.
Hello Niall and Antoinette:
Whatever the collective term, it certainly looks as if a good time was enjoyed by all. What a fun idea to gather together and such an international mix.
Perhaps a 'friendliness' of bloggers would be appropriate as it always seems to be so when two or more are gathered together!!
@Susan - a box of Belgain chocolates sat invitingly on a table stands no chance when a chocaholic returns from a days work! The contents just had to be sampled :-)
@Jean - nice one :-) Happily it behaved indeed.
@Pauline - knew this would bring the alliterators out of the woodwork! Great suggestions although we're not sure we want to be part of a bleet ;-)
@Jane & Lance - the company was charming and a 'friendliness of bloggers' does indeed sum up the day perfectly.
A scriven sounds good to us. What a great day it was I am just sorry we did not get to chat for longer. The time went far too quickly!! Keep well Diane
@Diane - time always flies when one is in good company :-)
We had a great time, too, seeing and meeting everyone!
@wcs - what a mutual appreciation society we are ;-)
Oh, what fun! I've really loved meeting fellow bloggers one at a time, so an entire gathering must have been so enjoyable. A scriven of bloggers sounds good to me. The collective term I came up with last year was a giggle of bloggers. :-)
@Perpetua - there was plenty of giggling and laughter so that would work! :-)
I think this was such a wonderful idea and great fun to be able to all get together like this.
@LindyLou - it was indeed great fun!
And what a super scriven you all look!
@Fly - why thank you kindly!
